Food News: A charming little Tuscan restaurant just opened, maybe you've heard of it...the Olive Garden?

So the big news in the foodie world right now is an 85-year old Grand Forks N.D, columnist's earnest review of an Olive Garden in her town that went viral. See the original article, as well as some of the fallout in mainstream media here.

Some have been making fun of her for describing the ol' pasta factory as "impressive" and "the largest and most beautiful restaurant now operating in Grand Forks." Others defend her for presenting the news that's relevant in her small town community. She is writing this article for an audience that would be interested in the opening of an Olive Garden. That's a big deal in some places.

What gets me though is it's pretty uncritical of the one dish she tried, she even passed up a server's suggestion of raspberry lemonade --that she insists she'll try on a hot day-- in favour of water.

I don't see what the big fuss is about this lady was doing her job, reporting the news to her local public --even if it does sound a bit hokey to the rest of us. What do you think? Is her review laughable or is it snobbish to poke fun of it?

  1. She's 85. I think she did a great job. Full disclosure: I love the Olive Garden.

  2. I also don't think we can rule out chain restaurants for review ---are they not still restaurants, they should be just as open to review as others. You can obviously tell her review isn't as sophisticated as A New York Times review or anything, but I doubt Grand Forks is either!
