Top Chef Canada 2: Episode 3 recap

Chef Sarah loses her s*#t in front of the judges. SOURCE:Food Network Canada
Okay, this recap on the baby-bonanza show may be a little "overdue" but hey, it's still before the next episode, so let's weigh in shall we?

If you haven't watched the episode but want to before I spoil it for you, click here.

Otherwise, let me start on the note that for an episode filled with so much estrogen, it was sad to see Sarah Tsai, one of the just three female chefs sent home. But seriously, that combination of prosciutto fat, chocolate, chilli and rice, is SHE pregnant? Who thinks that is a good combination? I bet even Mike Holmes wouldn't.

Perhaps she was still stuck on the first quick fire challenge in which the chefs had to concoct something as delicious as possible from two random ingredients. That was a neat idea.

Frankly, I thought I might be able to do better with some of the combos though, like peanut butter and pickle, seems like you should be able to do something winning, no?

Having ex-host Thea Andrews back as guest judge was a good idea, as was the pregnant lady theme. Andrews casual yet-informed persona kinda accentuate Lisa Ray's over-intensity a little too, don't you think?

The baby shower food elimination challenge was also interesting, but I think they underestimate how much ladies can eat at those things. Each of the dishes was so petite, some of them appearing so delicate that you'd probably end up looking uncouth eating them.

They were pretty harsh on the losing dishes, I mean did Lisa REALLY need to wipe down her tongue, I am sure she, I and you have eaten something much worse than that and not had to dramatically wipe our tongues off -- its something a kid would do.

As far as Joel's failed attempt at bacon-wrapped scallops. REALLY? Can that combination EVER go that horrific, I doubt it. Bacon + scallop = heaven.

In the end, Sarah was one of the most inexperienced chefs there, but had seemed to perform well in previous weeks. It's not like she was going to win, but there were chefs like David (of Drake hotel fame) and Xavier, who seem much more experienced and disappointing on a consistent basis. I wonder how much longer David is going to last as he keeps disappointing the judges.

Apparently we should brace ourselves for some cattiness between the two remaining female chefs, Trista and Elizabeth in the next episode. Arrgh between Sarah bawling in front of the judges, and mean girls antics, can we get any more stereotypical?
